Birdseed Ornaments

Happy Spring Everyone! The snow has finally melted and the birds are a welcome sight! Here is a fun activity for your kids to create and the birds will love!

What you will need for this activity: Birdseed

2 packages Unflavoured Gelatin

1/3 cup Corn Syrup

Simple cookie cutters * I suggest a heart or circle*

Drinking straw

Twine, or any other string you have around the house

Directions Pour 1/2 cup of cold water into large bowl Pour two packages of water on top of the Gelatin Next add 1/2 cup of boiling water to mixture and stir till all dissolves Then pour in corn syrup to mixture stir well till dissolved Pour in bird seed to mixture, stir all together and refrigerate for ten minutes Set cookie cutters on parchment paper and pour birdseed mixture into cutters, press down firmly till cookie cutters are completely full. Cut straws into pieces around 2 inches. Press the straws into the birdseed before it hardens so that it makes a nice hole. Not to close to the edge of ornaments. Place ornaments with straws in them overnight to let the ornament set. Next day slowly pop out ornament and take straw out. Thread your twine through the hole and tie a knot. Now the fun part. Go outside and decorate a tree with the ornaments. Birds will love munching on this birdseed treat! Stay safe everyone
