Popsicle Stick Sailboat
Crafts are the perfect way to keep your kids occupied in the summer. And crafts that they can play with are even better. That is why you will love this adorable popsicle stick boat craft for kids. It is easy to put together and perfect for fun water play, too. I will share with you how to make some popsicle stick boats. (Also, you get to eat all the popsicles first - Dan)
Materials you will need:
popsicle sticks
scissors
hard paper (for sail)
a hot glue gun
wood craft cube
Warning: Since this craft uses hot glue, I suggest that an adult handles the gluing. But your kids can have fun creating the boat’s design and making the sail that goes on top.
Boat 1
1. Lay a row of 12 colored popsicle sticks vertically to make a rainbow. Glue 4 sticks horizontally across the (12) sticks to secure the shape. This will create the bottom layer of the raft.
2. Cut a piece of thick paper in the shape that you want your sail. For my sail, I made a triangle and folded it in half around the standard craft stick. Also, you can decorate your sail.
3. Glue the stick with sail into the center of the wood cube. After that, place a mound of hot glue on the top of the boat and put cube into the center of the mound. Hold it in place until the glue dries.
Boat 2
1. Lay 12 sticks down in a straight row. Next, glue two sticks to the base, one on each side like shown in the picture. This will hold the base together.
2. Glue at all four of the corners as you build up the layers. Build as many layers as you like. I did about five.
3. Cut the hard paper of shape you want for sail. You can decorate it to use stickers, markers etc. Make one hole in the bottom paper and one hole in the top paper using the straw. Push straw inside both holes. Glue the stick with sail into the center of the wood cube. After that, glue wood cube in the center of the boat. Hold it in place until the glue dries.
NOTE: Use cold water when playing with the boats. Hot water will melt the glue, causing the boat to fall apart.
